The innovative MACBETH Project, funded by the European Union (H2020), successfully concludes after its launch in November 2019

The adventure has come to an end! After completing the testing campaign of the MACBETH project, the dismantling of the Membrane – Asissted Steam Reforming (MA-SR) was carried out.

Over two days, together with H2Site, the decommissioning was conducted, and everything was prepared for the transport of the equipment back home.

From the National Hydrogen Centre, we would like to thank H2Site and, especially, Mikel Eguaras, Estefanía Jurado, and Asier Kortázar for their support in each stage of this project. We look forward to working together again on future projects.

The MACBETH project, which began its journey in November 2019, has been coordinated by Evonik Performance Materials GmbH (EPM) and has involved a total of 27 partners.

The MACBETH project has continued the work of other European Union projects, such as ROMEO and BIONICO, representing a total investment of €20.7 million, of which the European Union, through the H2020 program, has funded €16.6 million. The project’s main objective has been the development of high-efficiency membranes and catalysts for industrial applications. Specifically, the Hydrogen line of the project (H2 Case) has focused on developing and testing two reformers (natural gas and biogas) to evaluate the performance of the catalyst and membranes in improving the process, achieving satisfactory results.

The testing campaign successfully reached 470 hours of operation and a total production of 35 m³ in 147 hours of production, with a purity exceeding 99%.
