On Friday, February 14, the presentation of the Hydrogen Roadmap of Castilla-La Mancha took place in Toledo, focusing on three main pillars:

  1. Consolidation, promotion, and attraction of renewable hydrogen projects
  2. Boosting knowledge and awareness of renewable hydrogen
  3. Regulation and incentives for the development of the value chain

The event was attended by the President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, and the Regional Department Responsible for Sustainable Development, Mercedes Gómez, who explained that “this is a coordinated agenda that will allow us to accelerate the development of the renewable hydrogen ecosystem in an orderly manner. Hydrogen is a strategic vector for Castilla-La Mancha, thanks to the region’s leadership in renewable energy generation.”

Gómez pointed out that “this Renewable Hydrogen Roadmap has two main visions: by 2030, with milestones we are already achieving and an investment forecast of 4.261 billion euros in such projects; and by 2050, when we need to ensure that our companies achieve zero emissions.”

Other measures announced include fostering public-private collaboration and the creation of a “Renewable Hydrogen Advisory Office” to guide individuals, businesses, and institutions on the various opportunities and possibilities this renewable vector offers.

The Minister emphasized that “today, we are already a national and international reference for the sector, thanks to the National Hydrogen Centre,” through the promotion of “research and development in the field of renewable hydrogen, leveraging the capabilities and readiness of the CNH2.”

After recalling that the most important companies in the sector “have taken Castilla-La Mancha as a reference and are serving as a beacon for others to come,” she provided examples such as the Cummins electrolyzer plant in Guadalajara and the future green steel plant by Hydnum Steel in Puertollano. She underlined that “these types of projects bring with them multimillion-dollar investments that create a significant number of jobs.”
