Emulation of electrolysis and fuel cells systems in real time
Period
2026-2027
Project Aim
The project will allow hydrogen systems, power converters and their interaction with the electricity grid to be validated with high fidelity, reproducing situations such as start-ups, ramps, imbalances, harmonics and grid-forming modes. In addition, it will support renewable energy integration tests, improve the flexibility and robustness of the grid and facilitate collaboration between the research field and industry in the development of the hydrogen economy.
It consists of the acquisition of the following infrastructure: (1) a Hardware in the Loop mobile node composed of two real-time hardware simulators, (2) and a programmable bidirectional load of 150–200 kW. This system will allow tests to be carried out independently or as part of the Centre’s Microgrid Laboratory, including advanced training and interoperability tests with external users.
