The Spanish National Hydrogen Centre (CNH2) participated on Friday, September 18, in the Hydrogen Vehicle Caravan organised by GASNAM in the Region of Madrid. Held as part of European Mobility Week, the initiative sought to showcase the development and potential of hydrogen technology in advancing more sustainable mobility. Its aim was to visit different facilities representing the hydrogen value chain as applied to transport.<\/p>\n
CNH2 joined the caravan with its Toyota Mirai, a hydrogen-powered vehicle driven from our facilities in Puertollano. The CNH2 represented Castilla-La Mancha in a route that brought together vehicles from six Spanish autonomous communities: Galicia, the Basque Country, Aragon, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia.<\/p>\n
The caravan therefore included passenger cars from A Coru\u00f1a and Vigo, represented by the Galician Hydrogen Association (AGH2); Bilbao, through Petronor; Zaragoza, with ARPA; Tarragona, with Carburos Met\u00e1licos; and Seville, with SailH2. This participation highlighted the increasingly nationwide reach of hydrogen mobility and the importance of cooperation among the sector\u2019s different stakeholders.<\/p>\n
The participating fleet included several types of vehicles, including urban and regional buses, a waste collection truck, a Toyota Hilux FCEV prototype\u2014presented in Spain for the first time\u2014and hydrogen-powered passenger cars from Toyota, Hyundai and BMW.<\/p>\n
The route provided an opportunity to visit several key sites in the hydrogen value chain in the Region of Madrid. The day began in Algete with the inauguration of a new HVR Energy refuelling station and continued to Exolum\u2019s facilities in San Fernando de Henares, HVR Energy in Coslada and Scale Green Energy, part of the Enag\u00e1s Group, in Manoteras.<\/p>\n
The caravan also visited the Arroyo Culebro renewable hydrogen production plant, owned by Canal de Isabel II and located in Pinto. This facility is equipped with a 1 MW electrolyser capable of producing approximately 400 kilograms of hydrogen per day using reclaimed water and renewable energy.<\/p>\n
The route concluded at EMT Madrid\u2019s Operations Centre in Entrev\u00edas, home to a municipal facility that integrates hydrogen production, storage and supply to refuel the company\u2019s bus fleet.<\/p>\n
The Hydrogen Caravan brought together institutional representatives and some of the leading stakeholders across the value chain, highlighting the importance of collaboration between technology centres, public authorities and companies in accelerating the development and deployment of renewable hydrogen in transport.<\/p>\n
The initiative was organised by GASNAM with the participation and support of HVR Energy, Toyota Spain, Enag\u00e1s, Scale Green Energy, Alba Emission, ARPA, SailH2, Fundaci\u00f3n Hidr\u00f3geno Arag\u00f3n, SHYNE, Alsa, Exolum, Carburos Met\u00e1licos and EVARM, as well as the backing of the Regional Government of Madrid and Madrid City Council.<\/p>\n
