{"id":22978,"date":"2021-06-24T07:37:50","date_gmt":"2021-06-24T05:37:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cnh2.es\/?p=22978"},"modified":"2021-06-24T07:40:56","modified_gmt":"2021-06-24T05:40:56","slug":"the-cnh2-is-part-of-the-ambitious-european-project-green-hysland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cnh2.es\/en\/2021\/06\/24\/the-cnh2-is-part-of-the-ambitious-european-project-green-hysland\/","title":{"rendered":"The CNH2 is part of the ambitious European Project &#8220;GREEN HYSLAND&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>THE CNH2 IS PART OF THE AMBITIOUS EUROPEAN PROJECT &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/greenhysland.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GREEN HYSLAND<\/a>: DEPLOYMENT OF A H2 ECOSYSTEM ON THE ISLAND OF MALLORCA&#8221; WHICH AIMS TO DEVELOP A GENERALISED HYDROGEN ECONOMY IN MALLORCA (BALEARIC ISLANDS) IN LINE WITH THE 2050 EUROPEAN ENVIRONMENTAL OBJECTIVES AND THE &#8220;SPANISH HYDROGEN ROADMAP: A COMMITMENT TO RENEWABLE HYDROGEN&#8221; APPROVED LAST OCTOBER BY THE SPANISH GOVERNMENT.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Green Hysland is a partnership between the following organisations: Acciona, Ameland Municipality, AMHYD, Aragon Hydrogen Foundation, AREAM Madeira, Spanish Hydrogen Association (AeH2), Balearia,\u00a0 CEA, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnh2.es\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>National Centre for Hydrogen (CNH2<\/strong>)<\/a>, Cotenaval, DAFNI, EMEC, EMT Palma, Enag\u00e1s, Energy Co-Operatives Ireland, Enercy, Fedarene, Gasnam, H2 Chile, HyCologne, HyEnergy Transstore, Instituto Balears de Energ\u00eda, Lloseta Municipality, New Energy Coalition, NUI Galway, Ports de Balears, Redexis, Universitat Balears and Universidad de La Laguna Tenerife.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnh2.es\/en\/cnh2\/green-hysland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GREEN HYSLAND<\/a> aims to deploy a fully-functioning Hydrogen (H2) ecosystem in the island of Mallorca, Spain, turning the island into Europe\u2019s first H2 hub in Southern Europe. This will be achieved by producing green hydrogen from solar energy and delivering it to the end users, such as the island\u2019s tourism, transport, industry and energy sectors, including gas grid injection for green heat and power local end-use. Green hydrogen will be used in Palma for a variety of purposes including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">A refuelling station to supply a fleet of fuel cell electrical buses and passenger rental vehicles.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Heat and energy for commercial buildings (hotels) and public buildings (municipal buildings).<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Power supply to assist ferries (i.e., cold ironing) and port operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22973\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cnh2.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/greenhysland_02-845x621.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cnh2.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/greenhysland_02-300x186.png 300w, https:\/\/www.cnh2.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/greenhysland_02-768x477.png 768w, https:\/\/www.cnh2.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/greenhysland_02-705x438.png 705w, https:\/\/www.cnh2.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/greenhysland_02-450x279.png 450w, https:\/\/www.cnh2.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/greenhysland_02.png 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The green hydrogen will be generated by a PEM electrolyser that will be supplied by Hydrogenics, Cummins Inc. This group is a world leader in the design and manufacture of electrolysers and has recently announced its investment plans in Castilla-La Mancha (Spain) where it will locate one of the largest electrolysers plants for the production of hydrogen and which is expected to be operational in 2023. For this project the electrolyser will have a production capacity of more than 330 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, a hydrogen that will be used as a priority directly as an energy source and, where it cannot be used directly, will also be injected into the natural gas network to reduce CO2 emissions from natural gas consumers. The promoters are currently processing the permits to build both the electrolysis plant and the two photovoltaic plants that will feed it, in Petra and Lloseta, as well as a Green Hydrogen Service Station in Palma de Mallorca.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Indeed, hydrogen will help to increase the penetration of renewable energy in the Balearic energy system, demonstrating sector coupling and sectorial integration, and moving towards full decarbonization of the economy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CNH2 works in WP5 (\u201cCreation and Analysis of Impact and Development of Business Models\u201d). In this WP, partners will evaluate the impact of deployment of H2 technologies at regional level (Mallorca and Balearic islands) at technical, economic, energetic, environmental, regulatory and socioeconomic levels. CNH2 will use up-to-date LCA methodologies to understand and quantify the life-cycle environmental performance of all technologies and process chains deployed in the project. This assessment will be used to guide the development of the project through key environmental performance indicators. Also, CNH2 participates in WP6 \u201cScaling up and Replication of Hydrogen island ecosystems across the EU\u201d and WP7 \u201cCommunication, Dissemination &amp; Exploitation\u201d. The main objective of WP7 is increasing impact through activities of communication, dissemination and exploitation of project\u2019s results. Education, training and capacity building are considered of key importance at communication level, to raise awareness of the main aspects of GREEN HYSLAND project. During the development and roll-out of the planned activities of the project, CNH2 and other partners, with support from local partners, will develop specific needs on technical training and educational knowledge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking\u00a0 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fch.europa.eu\/press-releases\/green-hysland-mallorca-first-green-hydrogen-project-mediterranean-country-due-get\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FCH 2 JU<\/a>) Undertaking under Grant Agreement No 101007201 of the European Commission has selected the project Green Hysland in the Balearic Islands to start negotiations for an EU grant agreement valued at 10 million EUR to support the deployment of the necessary infrastructure to make Mallorca\u2019s renewable hydrogen ecosystem a reality. This Joint Undertaking receives support from the European Union\u2019s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme, Hydrogen Europe and Hydrogen Europe Research. This project, <a href=\"https:\/\/cordis.europa.eu\/project\/id\/101007201\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GREN HYSLAND<\/a>, constitutes the second largest grant by this European Commission body to a green hydrogen project and the largest grant ever offered to a Mediterranean country. Nevertheless, the total planned investment is approximately EUR 50 million, including renewable electricity generation, the green hydrogen plant and end-use equipment.
