The Microgrids Laboratory is a platform for the development and testing of hydrogen-based systems applied in the field of the microgrids and smart grids. The laboratory is specifically designed to integrate the hydrogen as energy carrier with other energy storage solutions such as batteries and ultracapacitors. It is an open platform to integrate new microgrids components.
AREAS
- Optimization of the microgrid resources to develop advanced Energy Management Systems (EMS): the solver TOMLAB allows the development of mixed logic dynamic algorithms including mixed lineal, quadratic and non-linear programming. Other supported software solutions are Matlab, Excel and C/C++. The microgrid is an open platform which accepts other EMS solutions with Modbus Communication.
- Power Electronics: all power electronics devices are equipped with a Real Time Target platform model OPAL RT-OP4500 allowing direct programming of the power electronics controllers from algorithm developed in Matlab/Simulink/Simpower.
- Interoperatibility of microgrids: three different microgrids of 1kW, 30kW and 90 kW.
- Power-Hardware in the Loop (HIL): The microgrid is equipped with two grid emulators (30 and 90 kW) integrated with the HIL platform OPAL RT –OP5600 with the possibility to emulate complex network or grid casuistic connected to the Microgrids.
